    I am a Thomas Walsh decendent who just found your web site. My name is Daniel Patrick O'Connell Jr.,, son of Daniel P. O'Connell who was the son of John O'Connell and Bertha (Bridget Walsh). My Dad had given me a printed copy of your decendent chart years ago and each March 17 I go though it. By chance I searched on the internet for Coolboy Ireland and your web site popped up! I was unable to download the GEDCOM file from your site, if you can email it to me directly I would appreciate it.

    It looks like you are a few years older than me and since I grew up in Hamden we may have met sometime in the past. Here is some updated information for your site:


    My grandmother Bertha Walsh died on June 19, 1974, just after I graduated from college. I knew her very well and spent many holiday dinners at her table at 58 Helen Street in Hamden CT. She was always promising to take me back to Ireland with her for a visit but she didnt make it. I was always under the impression that she was from County Cork and emigrated around 1916. There is a story that she was originally planning to come over on the Titanic, not sure how truthful, but I may have come close to not being born! I have been told that I resemble her in appearance. Her husband John O'Connell worked for many years for the New Haven Railroad. He lived by himself until June 25, 1980 living to 94. He was born in Tooreens County Kerry in 1886 and emigrated in 1917 where he met and married Bertha in Connecticut.

    My Dad, Daniel P. O'Connell was born in New Haven on February 24, 1924, and died at home in Hamden on November 13, 1990, only 66 years old, of lung cancer. His older brother John still lives in Hamden. He had married Barbara Jerome in New Haven in 1949. She died on October 14, 2002, in New Haven. My Dad was a fireman in the Town of Hamden for 39 years. My Mom was a teachers aid and homemaker. They were very loving and kind parents and I miss them greatly.

    I was born on January 3, 1953, in New Haven. My brother Robert John was born in New Haven on December 7, 1954. We grew up in Hamden. After graduating from Brown University, I started my career as a civil engineer in CT and RI. I married Nancy E. Rafferty of Newport RI in 1979. We moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where we had a son Dannan Rafferty O'Connell born on July 17, 1990. We moved back to RI in 1999 where we currently reside.

    My brother Rob married in 2001 and now lives in East Haven. I will forward a copy of this message to him, and maybe he can provide more details. My cousins John and Maureen have married and have children, I'm not sure of Elizabeth. My brother or Uncle John can provide more info I'm sure.

    I do have some early photos of my grandmother and her sons which i will try to scan and send you.
