LAGUNA, Calif. — Mary Walsh Kennedy Murphy, 96, passed away on June 8, in Laguna Hills, Calif. surrounded by her children. Mary was born in Torrington on Oct. 15, 1912 to Richard and Mary (Lane) Kennedy and lived most of her life in Torrington. She was married to the late William (Bebe) Murphy.

On Valentine’s Day 1997 at 84 years old, she bravely moved from her beloved Torrington to start a new life in California with two of her children and grandchildren. Mary was an avid golfer and played in a league well into her 90’s. She was a member of the Torrington Bridge Club and continued playing competitive bridge after her move to California.

Mary is survived by her loving children, Bill Murphy and wife Stacy of Nipomo, Calif., Rich Murphy of Port St. Lucie, Fla., Ellen Murphy Fowler of Costa Mesa, Calif. and grandchildren Molly Murphy and Lane and Ian Fowler of Costa Mesa, Calif., her brother Richard’s daughters Eileen Fahey and Mary Kurinsky: sister in law Josephine Kelly Murphy and many, many nieces, nephews and their spouses and children.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday June 19, at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony Church, 49 South St., Litchfield. Burial will follow at St. Francis Old Cemetery in Torrington. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105.
